Esophonic is a unique and upbeat radio show airing on Chicago House FM (CHFM.com) bi-weekly Tuesdays from 7-9pm, starting from 16th June 2009. The name 'Esophonic' is an amalgamation of the two words: 'Esoteric', meaning something unusual that is only understood by those in the know, and 'Euphonic', which means an agreeable sound. The four DJs behind the show are (in no particular order!): Little Jo, Renny C, Greg Shaw and Phillip Paske. Each one of us are working DJs yet we all come from slightly different angles of the musical spectrum, therefore encapsulating a diverse range of styles, whilst still keeping that true house sound. Tune into the show to hear two different mixes from ourselves as well as guests, plus some interesting segments and banter including interviews with DJs and showcasing of new tunes/talent. There will also be a live chat room during the show so feel free to pop up in there and give us your views and comments, either on the show or just anything in general that you'd like to chat about! A quick rundown of the Esophonic 4: Little Jo - Brought up listening to jazz and playing drums and piano, Little Jo soon discovered dance music by her teenage years and got her first set of decks aged 15. Her first gig was at 17 and by then she was playing both hard house and funky house! Little Jo finally settled on jazzy, vocal US house plus a bit of mainstream funky house and has now kept that style for when she plays at various clubs in Bristol and other corners of the country. Some of the DJs Little Jo has played alongside include Deli G, Tristan B, Graeme Park, Jason Herd and Allister Whitehead. She is a die hard vinyl fan (no CDJs!) but is looking to get set up with Serato in the very near future! Renny C - Renny Constantine has been into House since the early 90's; growing up in a city known for its birth of good music. Listening to his older sisters House music tapes on her stereo when she was out at nightclubs, he knew this was going to be the music he would have a tie with for the rest of his life. In the late 90's he latched to the UK garage sound joining DJ’s, Hector C and DJ Crem, clubbing around the country. He watched UK garage marry house and then saw the divorce. Fast forward to 2007, and you could find him moving on to playing a darker sound with fellow DJ, Jay Russell, forming the Dirty Sound Technicians and playing across the country. Since getting to grips with the performance side of things with his DJ’ing, Renny has made a bond with old school friend, Paske, in order to make that next evolutionary step into production. He and Paske have since joined Andy Childs to produce for the BulletProofSonics imprint. After years of hard work, Renny Constantine’s style has come to full fruition. His is a selection of deep/jacking/tech house, with a few wild cards for good measure. The result has created a sound that cannot be defined. Using his club experience of the house & garage events in the late 90's, he learned to hone his unique sound of driving bass lines, '4-step' and straight up 'bleeps' that will have you begging for more. Greg Shaw - Greg began his DJ career in 2001 when he was playing regular slots at London club, Moochin. Here he developed his style from funky/vocal house to more tougher, electro-driven sounds. He was then a regular on the London club scene, dj-ing at clubs such as Ministry of Sound, Plan B, Inigo, Aquarium, The White House and even some charity boat parties, and the electro sounds became a more jackin' vibe. Greg has also played in Ibiza and some of the DJs he has played alongside include Mr C, Mark Knight, Buckley, Lee Mortimer, Mutiny, Deepgrove, Hoxton Whores, Fergie, Funk d’void, Kraymon and Damien Schneider. Greg is also not a stranger to the radio scene as back in the early days, he was involved with radio station Sub FM where he worked on a Wednesday night slot, pulling in over a thousand listeners! You can currently catch Greg 'Moochin' around Bristol, where he runs a Sunday bank holiday after-party called Drama and is part of a new tech house/techno night called 'Lets Go Lego!'. Phillip Paske - Phillip grew up listening to hardcore and playing the drums. He left the seen as it became too cheesy for him and had already started listening to techno/trance music and eventually ended up in the house music scene, mainly tech, progressive and electro. He also dabbled in the occasional breakbeat tunes!!!! At present, Phillip has a monthly night at the Whitehart Pub in Whitehall, Bristol. He DJs here alongside his mate Sam Pitchford and occasional gusets, such as Dj Renny C!!! Troy "DaHybrid" Brown - Troy has been surrounded by house music all his life while growing up in Chicago. As the son of the legendary westside DJ Kingfish, Troy had access to old 45 records of hiphop, disco, soul, funk and blues and this basically fuelled his love for music. He was fortunate enough to witness some of the legends of house music (Julian "Jumpin" Perez, Marshall Jefferson, Farley "Jack Master" Funk) play live at places like St Stephens on the southside of Chicago, The Aragon Ballroom and McCormick Place as well as hear them on local Chicago radio stations WGCI and WBMX. During the early 80's hiphop hit the scene and he was hooked. Whether it was writing rhymes, making homemade mixtapes with his best friend Brian in his friend's basement or beat boxing he was always in tune with hip hop music. Even though hiphop basically was paramount in his life as the music of choice, he still loved the original genres that he grew up on, including house music. Troy lives and breathes hiphop music and can be found around Bristol as well as the UK doing shows under his stage name Da Hybrid, rhyming in ciphers and producing hip hop. As the resident "old man" of the Esophonic crew (and comic relief on the show) he is happy to bring the old skool knowledge of the music to the listeners as well as the (occasional mix), so if you see him in the chatroom give him a shout, he will be more than happy to give ya one back. Catch the Esophonic team every other Tuesday night 7-9pm from Tuesday 16th June..... www.chicagohousefm.commore
